My friend Todd has long threatened to start a blog called “Why Marty Is Wrong,” which he will use to refute everything I write about on my own blog.
One thing I know for sure is that Todd will never do this.
Why?
Because there’s a lot more that I’m right about than I’m wrong about. And that includes the fact that Todd has much better things to do than debate me in a point-counterpoint blog post back-and-forth.
In short, he’s all talk.
So because I have free reign to say what I want, knowing that Todd won’t ever create that blog, here’s a list of 23 things that he can’t dispute.
1. There is no such thing as a “best practice,” only what works best for you.
2. We are living in a golden age of TV show theme songs/music. To wit: Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Community, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, and New Girl.
3. Whoever invented Nutella is a genius.
4. Leaving a job is better than starting a new one.
5. There is no better live music performer than Bruce Springsteen.
6. The Artist is a good movie, but Hugo should have won Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars this year.
7. April is the best month of the year. The weather is getting warmer, baseball is back, people are happier … What could be bad?
8. It’s impossible to dislike the Beatles.
9. Nice people always win. Eventually.
10. The only thing better than a good meal is a free good meal.
11. The way stores mark up Kosher for Passover food and then put it “on sale” should be illegal.
12. The Red Sox will not win the World Series this year. (I hope I’m wrong about that one.)
13. Katie Couric should never have left the Today Show. She belongs on morning TV.
14. Dr. Pavlov was on to something.
15. There are no social media experts. Only people who know how to use the tools well to suit their own needs.
16. The best time of day to go to the dentist is first thing in the morning, when you’re still half asleep. That way, the day can only get better from there.
17. Bagels from a store that doesn’t have the word “bagel” in its name are never very good.
18. Nobody cooks a better steak than the folks at Ruth’s Chris.
19. You can’t know something is true for sure unless you’ve tried it first.
20. It’s hard to resist a woman in a black dress.
21. Life is much better when seen through the eyes of a child.
22. Sleeping late is much harder to do than it should be.
23. When you include a picture of a dog, people are much more likely to read your blog post.
I’m right, aren’t I?
If you care to take Todd’s place and dispute any of these facts, please feel free to do so in the comments field below. (If you want to say “You’re right,” then that’s allowed too.)
2. Big Bang Theory should be on this list. Great theme song. (And I have a Barenaked Ladies bias)
4. If you leave on your own terms, I agree. Getting laid off sucks.
18. Never been to Ruth’s Chris, but Buckley’s in Merrimack, NH may give them a run. (I guess I need to go to Ruth’s Chris to validate!)
Any time you want to go to Ruth’s Chris, I’m game. Mmmmm …
And yes, if I watched “Big Bang Theory” (and still had BNL top of mind, like I used to), then that theme also would have made this list. You’re right: It’s awesome.
Not looking for a fight, Jason. But, I gotta disagree with you on the Buckley’s point. 🙂 I’ve been consistently disappointed with their fare—def ready to try something new.
Sad to hear. Hope Buckley’s isn’t going down hill as there are so few real “steak” places in this neck of the woods. Thankfully, The Meat House is still around for those of us that don’t mind grilling our own plate of meat!
I LOVE This!!!!
I knew you would.
Fine. Now the list is 24 things. 😉
If i have to wear my winter coat still…it’s not a good month 🙂
Fair point, but April is a month that gets better as it goes along. It doesn’t stay cold all month long, like, say, February does.
#20- except at a funeral…
Clearly, you’ve never seen the fine American film, “Wedding Crashers.” 😉
Peanut Butter & Co’s Dark Chocolate Dreams is way better than Nutella. Everything else you’re mostly right about.
#6 – WRONG! Hugo was a film made for people who critique films aka Y-O-U! Granted, it did have it’s moments and I do not contend that it wasn’t worthy of a nomination; but to win? NO WAY! Don’t even get me started about how the trailer portrayed an entirely different movie! Otherwise no one would have seen it. The Artist compelled millions of people to go out and see a silent film…in the 21st century…and they loved it! It’s the kind of movie that people will be talking about for years to come, I can’t say the same about Hugo…in fact, what was I talking about again? I find myself thinking of the old hag in The Princess Bride when I read this, “Boooo! Rubbish, filth, grime, BOOOOOO!”
hope you’re doing well 🙂
Hope you are right about #9!
Point by point:
1. Wrong. There is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things. The right way is the right way, and everything else is cutting corners. That is not to say that I don’t cut corners all the time – I certainly do – but I’m not going to convince myself that cutting corners is the right thing to do.
2. Wrong. There can be no such thing as a “golden age of television theme songs.” What’s next – a golden age of advertising? A golden age of processed foods?
3. Wrong. Albert Einstein is a genius. The guy who invented nutella had a good idea for a processed food product.
I’d write more, but this form resets with each letter I type. you were certainly wrong to choose this blog format. This is driving me crazy….
Ha ha ha ha ha ha …
4. Wrong. Leaving a job is often necessary, and being without a job can be great, but starting a new job is exciting and offers great opportunities.
5. I’m not going to say anything bad about The Boss, but really? No one better? No one?
6. Wrong. Moneyball should have won Best Picture.
7. Wrong, and what’s more, I bet if I asked you in December, even you would say you were wrong here. But you’d be wrong then, too. The best month is August.
I will run the risk and put this in writing. I don’t like the Beatles.
Miss you Martin 🙂
What???? I don’t understand, Suzy. How is that possible?
