This Is Why I’m Lucky

9 Dec

As I’ve previously written on this blog, I’m a lucky man.

But I fear I wasn’t specific enough.

So … now that I’ve returned from five days in Park City, Utah, where I was for a conference, I thought I needed to be a little bit more specific about why I feel so lucky … Continue reading

Americone Dream Come True

24 Aug

I did it again.

As you may recall, last summer, I successfully led an effort to get Ben & Jerry’s to come and give free ice cream to my coworkers.

In fact, it was exactly this week that the ice cream truck rolled up to our building and gave out servings of tasty Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to all who wanted it.

Well, Ben & Jerry’s is at it again this summer, and so was I. Continue reading

Not Horrible At All

11 Jul

Apparently, there are some people in the world who don’t like their job.

Imagine that.

These people are either going to really love Horrible Bosses, or cringe because it just hits too close to home.

In the film, three friends played by Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day, plot to kill their bosses because, well, those bosses are horrible people.

They’re overbearing, they’re abusive, they stifle growth, they demean, they’re disrespectful, they sexually harass, they insult … and that’s for starters.

To avoid getting caught, Nick, Kurt, and Dale (Bateman, Sudeikis, and Day’s characters, respectfully) take a cue from Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train and plot to murder each other’s boss.

But nothing goes as planned, of course. Continue reading

Lucky Man

10 May

The truth is, life is pretty good for me these days.

I’ve got two young nephews and a niece who just turned 3 years old.

I’ve been busy, I’m happy, and the weather is turning nicer.

Oh, and last week at this time I was in Captiva Island, Florida, on another trip for work.

Already this year I’ve been to Las Vegas and Key Biscayne for conferences.

And this was the second time I’ve been to Captiva for this particular conference. Continue reading

More Free Stuff Thanks to Twitter

1 Mar

You may recall that last summer, I used Twitter to get my entire office free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Aside from it being a great marketing program for Ben & Jerry’s, it was lots of fun for me.

To this day, I use the story as just one reason why I think Twitter is worthwhile. I mean, how can you argue with getting free stuff?

Well, guess what: It’s happened again. Continue reading

Not So Sunny Days

6 Feb

I’ll be honest … At least on the surface, as far as any of you can tell, life is going pretty well for me these days.

I have two new nephews, two weeks ago I got “stuck” and had to spend an extra day in Las Vegas thanks to a snow storm back east, and this past week it happened again, only this time I was in Key Biscayne, Florida.

As I keep telling people: Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

But I have to say, I wish everything was as glamorous and fun as it seems. Continue reading

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas

31 Jan

I was lucky enough to go to Las Vegas last week for MarketingSherpa’s Email Summit, held at Caesars Palace.

Good conference, good to see friends, to meet some folks I’ve been in touch with via Twitter IRL, and make new connections thanks to my tendency to over-tweet when I go to events like these (no kidding; I posted 118 tweets in three days, the most of anyone else at the conference).

Learned some, networked a bit, represented my employer well, and would call the trip a productive one.

Blah blah blah. This isn’t my work blog. I don’t need to defend why I was there. Continue reading

Social Media Sure Is Delicious

25 Aug

I don’t in any way pretend to be a social media expert.

Sure, I’m an active user of Facebook and Twitter, I have a blog, and now I’ve even started checking in everywhere on Foursquare.

And sure, some people I work with think I’m an expert.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned when it comes to social media, it’s that nobody knows anything (to borrow the phrase from William Goldman), and we’re all making it up as we go along.

So I’ll let other people label themselves as social media gurus, experts, ninjas, or whatever word they’re using these days. Me, an expert? I’m not ready for that kind of label just yet.

That all said, I really do enjoy social networking. Continue reading

Get Abby a SAG Card

8 Apr

Wanted to share the third video I made with my niece, Abby.

It’s definitely the best of the trilogy — partly because she’s totally cute in it and partly because I finally learned how to use my editing software to, you know, edit.

The video’s only 40 seconds long, so give it a quick play. As I said, Abby’s totally cute in it.

And if you smile, why not share it on your Facebook page or in your Twitter feed? Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkOo9i6cq48.

Thanks!

Yes, There’s a "Sequel"

24 Feb

Last week, I told you about the video I made that shows my niece wearing my shoes. If you watched it, you probably saw that it was actually a very amateurish-looking commercial for my employer.

So what was the deal? Continue reading
