Get Abby a SAG Card

8 Apr

Wanted to share the third video I made with my niece, Abby.

It’s definitely the best of the trilogy — partly because she’s totally cute in it and partly because I finally learned how to use my editing software to, you know, edit.

The video’s only 40 seconds long, so give it a quick play. As I said, Abby’s totally cute in it.

And if you smile, why not share it on your Facebook page or in your Twitter feed? Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkOo9i6cq48.

Thanks!

Yes, There’s a "Sequel"

Last week, I told you about the video I made that shows my niece wearing my shoes. If you watched it, you probably saw that it was actually a very amateurish-looking commercial for my employer.

So what was the deal? Continue reading

An Addict and an Enabler

22 Feb

They say admitting you have a problem is the first step in curing yourself of an addiction, and while I hate to make light of addiction, I must say to you all: Hello, my name is Martin Lieberman and I am addicted to cupcakes.

I have no willpower, so I am helpless whenever I see one of those mini-cakes with frosting on them.

I’ve known of this problem for some time, of course. I mean, why else would I have gotten so up-in-arms about Johnny Cupcakes not selling actual cupcakes?

But it’s gotten worse lately. Continue reading

My Niece, the Star

16 Feb

I’ve now become that guy.

My 21-month-old niece, Abby, was doing something cute when we were on vacation a couple weeks ago, so I took a quick video of it and now I’ve posted it on YouTube.

For some reason, Abby has a fascination with shoes. And in this video, you’ll see her wearing mine — even though they’re a bit too big for her little feet.

But she doesn’t care. She’s having a good time.

And so was I, watching her.

Sunny Days

8 Feb

Since my parents basically live in Florida, going down there is more like going home than going on vacation.

That said, going down to Florida with my niece, Abby, makes it a vacation. And that’s exactly what I was doing last week.

We all went down for our first full family vacation with Abby. The first half she was with my sister, brother-in-law, and his family, and the second half they were with me and my folks. Continue reading

Life Was Good

31 Dec

Generally, I’m not a fan of New Year’s Eve, but this year especially, I’m not looking forward to it at all.

You see, unlike many people I know, and contrary to general trends in the economy, 2009 was a great year for me. Really and truly it was.

So perhaps I jumped the gun when I called 2008 “The Year of Martin” because I enjoyed 2009 so much more.

Here are some of the reasons why. Continue reading

A Christmas Gift

27 Dec

When I say that visits to Boston by my niece, Abby, are getting to be routine, that’s not meant to say that they’re getting boring. Far from it. What I mean is that Abby comes to Boston twice a year and I can look forward to them now because I know that come December, she’ll be here (same with Labor Day weekend). It’s predictable and routine, in the best possible way. And this past weekend’s visit didn’t disappoint. We had a fun brunch at my place on Friday (with Barrah, Farry, and Scott), a visit to the Children’s Museum on Saturday, lots of Wii, lots of “Old MacDonald” (aka “EIEIO”), and lots of fun. If anything, it was too quick. Thankfully, I took lots of pictures, and that will help preserve the memories. Want a look? Just click here.

More to Be Thankful For

29 Nov

I was remiss on Wednesday when I posted my list of the things I’m thankful for this year because I left off my sister and brother-in-law, Mitzi and Jason. This weekend they gave me a couple more reasons why they should have been on the list. Continue reading

More! More!

8 Sep

Abby has learned some new words since I last saw her (in June): “More” and “No.” She said both many times this weekend while she was here in Boston for her family’s now-annual Labor Day Weekend visit to Boston. Nothing was ever enough, and she knew what she wanted (and what she didn’t want). Suffice it to say, a great time was had.

Abby’s an exhausting little girl now, but an endlessly fascinating (and fascinated) one. I loved watching her walk all over — my apartment, an open field, a playground, Farry & Barrah’s apartment, the Pru and Copley malls, the Public Garden, Boston Common, the B.C. campus … you name it, she was there exploring every nook and cranny. Abby’s been to Boston before (most recently in January) but each time she comes, she’s more aware of and curious about her surroundings. I could sit and watch her wander around for days and days. And that’s pretty much what I did.

And, as if Mitzi and Jason didn’t have enough to tire them out with chasing Abby around, they also got a little bit hooked on my Wii (Mitzi especially). Who knew they’d like it so much? It’s safe to say that when the three of them left on Monday, we all wanted a little bit “more” time to spend together. Alas, real life beckons. Thankfully, we’ll always have the pictures to remind us of the great time we had (click here to see them). Till their next visit …

Party Girl

18 May

Dear Uncle Martin,

I know you can’t understand anything I say, so I thought I would write you a letter.

Thank you so much for coming down to New York this weekend for my first birthday party. I know it was really crazy with all those kids (and their parents, and our family, and my mommy and daddy’s friends) in my house, but I had a great time and I hope you did too. The cake (from Costco) was yummy, but I think my favorite part of the party was singing and dancing and shaking the bells along with Zev, and his songs about bath time and farm animals. Then again, as much as I liked the music and having all my friends here, I enjoyed all the “bah bah bahs” (i.e.: balloons) most of all.

The food was so good, wasn’t it? I loved the kids-only macaroni and cheese — it’s my favorite. Thank you so much for going with my daddy to Stew Leonard’s at 7:45 a.m. to pick it up. Daddy said he bought you some cider donuts there. Did you really need them? Uncle Martin, I think you need to watch what you eat. Please tell me you didn’t eat more of them on your drive back to Boston. Continue reading
