F’in Gagne!!!

14 Oct

Eric Gagne, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: YOU SUCK!!!!!

Other than that … uh, um, ah, what the hell happened in game two?

A Tale of Two Cities

9 Oct

As a Red Sox fan, it should come as no surprise that I’m real psyched about the Yankees loss in the ALDS. Even though it would have been nice to play a beat-up team like the Yankees, it’ll be even better to play the Indians in the ALCS for a change and to not have to hear the same ole same ole hyped up rivalry talk. And to not have to deal with A-Rod’s weasly antics or any of that crap. I think we’ll beat the Tribe in six. Either way, I’m really looking forward to the series. It’s going to be a good one.

Game Over

8 Oct

And that’s three! The Yankees are done.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha…!

Woo Hoo!!

7 Oct

There are many reasons to celebrate the Red Sox winning the ALDS. Here are some:

* A few days of rest for the team before the ALCS
* Beckett in Game One
* No matter who wins the Yanks-Indians series, we can say we swept round one. And we retain home field advantage.
* No game four on Monday, meaning no need to stay up late after a relaxing long weekend (the game was scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m.)
* No more listening to those awful, awful broadcasters on TBS (the American League ALCS is on Fox) or seeing those annoying Frank TV ads
* Tina Cervasio covered in champagne again
* More time for oblivious people to learn when the games are happening

Now I say, bring on the Tribe!

Two Down

Poor Yankees. Hee hee hee hee …

One Down

12-3. Ouch. The Yanks sure did get spanked tonight.

Welcome Back, Kapler

3 Oct

What an awesome start to the playoffs for the Red Sox! Equally exciting — alright, maybe not equally — is the fact that my buddy Gabe Kapler has started a blog to document his thoughts on the team’s playoff run. Gabe’s a smart guy, and after a year as a manager down in the minors, I’m eager to see what he’ll have to say about each game. And, hopefully this’ll be another step on his road to returning to the Red Sox roster in 2008.

Is She Serious?

3 Oct

“Oh, there’s a Red Sox game tonight? Well, that explains it.”
a woman on the outbound D line at 6:15 p.m. this evening as we were pulling into Copley station, trying to figure out why it was so crowded

I wrote a while back that it surprised me how people could be so unaware of the Red Sox in such a baseball-crazy city. Well, explain to me how this woman could be so oblivious on the night of Game One of the playoffs (even if it is just the ALDS), when the train was beyond packed, and there were a ton of people wearing Red Sox gear. She had been on the train for at least a couple stops. What, did she think everyone was just out for a night on the town? Did she not see the Globe or the Herald today, or watch any of the local news programs recently? I’m not saying she has to be a fan or even watch the game, but how can she not know it’s happening?

Anyway … forget her. Let’s Go Red Sox!!!

Thank You, Yankees

LET’S GO RED SOX! WAAAHOOOO!!! We’re A.L. East Champs!!! Bring on the Angels! World Series here we come! YAHOO!!!

This Hurts

20 Sep

I got an e-mail at work recently making me aware of the fact that September is Pain Awareness Month. Being a Red Sox fan and all, I say, “Yeah, no kidding.” According to the American Pain Foundation (really, there’s an organization for everything), more than one-quarter of Americans age 20 years and over — or, an estimated 76.5 million Americans — report that they have had a problem with a pain of some sort that persisted for more than 24 hours in duration. So let’s see, we’ve now lost four straight games including a sweep by the Blue Jays, we lost two of three to the Yankees last weekend, Youk‘s hurt, Manny’s still hurt, Wakefield’s off his game, Gagne and Dice-K suck, Okajima’s tired, Papelbon’s vulnerable, and now we’re only a game and a half in first place. I’d say the APF can count me in that statistic, even if, apparently, the number doesn’t include those with acute pain.

In honor of Pain Awareness Month, the APF is releasing the Pain Resource Guide: Getting the Help You Need, to help patients find the most appropriate care. Well, I wonder if one of the tips in that guide is to dwell on the positive. Today I read that Gabe Kapler wants to play in the major leagues again. As someone who has been a longtime Kapler fan and was sorry to see him leave town to go coach in the minors, this is very good news indeed. Sure, there’s no guarantee he’s coming back to the Sox. But it’ll be good to see Gabe back in the bigs next year.

Granted, I haven’t entirely given up on this year’s team — like I did last year. But seeing as we haven’t been able to even win the three games it’ll take for us to clinch a measly playoff spot, I don’t have much confidence in our post-season chances. (And yes, I hope I’m wrong.) So what’s the harm in already looking forward to next season?
