Thanks to EW.com’s Pop Watch blog for this awesome time waster. It’s almost like a sequel to Will It Blend.com, which I wrote about a few weeks back. On this site, you can watch stuff get blow’d up in a microwave. Totally juvenile, but there’s something really entertaining about watching marshmallows or roll-on deodorant or ketchup packets going boom. So, go to the site, watch for yourself, and enjoy.
Will It Explode?

If you watch The Late Show with David Letterman then you know his game “Will It Float?” Well, this weekend, Matt introduced me to the Web site Will It Blend.com, which is just like it sounds: a guy puts things in a blender to see if they will blend. His most recent attempt? An iPhone. He’s also tried to blend Transformers, a tiki torch, a plunger, and many more. It’s pretty juvenile, but it’s also really amusing — especially the guy’s goofy grin. Watch the iPhone video for yourself below and try not to get hooked waiting to see what he’ll try to blend next.
D’Oh!

If I was a character on The Simpsons (and didn’t wear glasses), this is what I’d look like. At least that’s what the web site for the upcoming Simpsons movie thinks. Try it for yourself: go to SimpsonsMovie.com and click on “Create Your Simpsons Avatar.”
Take This ‘Job’ and Read It

I’m always happy to support a new blog on the scene, especially when it’s one written by someone as cool as Erin Pullen (who made the unfortunate mistake of marrying my former work bud, JPP — just kidding, John).
Erin’s blog, titled simply “The Day Job Blog,” is all about those people out there who toil away at a day job (office admin, waitress, retail salesperson, or sign holder, like on Sunday night’s Flight of the Conchords) so they can fund their real career, be it painter, writer, actor, or, in Erin’s case, opera singer. They Should Try the Chocolate Pudding

Politics aside, I love the new video Hillary Clinton put up on her campaign Web site about choosing her official campaign song. Not because I like the song — actually, I pretty much hate it — and not because of the corny dialogue or the lame Sopranos parody, but because it was filmed at the Mount Kisco Coach Diner, where I spent many, many hours during the first, oh, 28 or 30 years of my life. I love that she and Bill walk in through the side door, which no one does, and that they’re sitting in one of the same booths that I have sat in. I wonder what else they’ll order. I always enjoyed an omelette on a Sunday morning, or a hamburger at night. The grilled cheese wasn’t bad any time of the day. And of course, the chocolate pudding was yummy. It always had that fun layer of “skin” on top. Mmmmm… So yeah, check out the video. It’s kinda cool.
Free, Fast … and Sanitary?
3 Apr
Great. I go and get a high-speed Internets connection with Comcast that costs me way too much money each month, and now, just three months later, Google announces its own Internets service — and it’s absolutely free. According to the site, Google believes that “all users deserve free, fast and sanitary online access.” To that end, the service has a 10-times higher flow rate than basic DSL, it’s vaccuum-sealed to prevent water damage, and it uses “discreet DNA sequencing of your personal bodily output to display online ads that are contextually relevant to your culinary preferences, current health status and likelihood of developing particular medical conditions going forward.” Wait a second. What was that again? Yes, this was Google’s April Fools joke. And I didn’t learn about it until today (thanks, Jason). Still, I thought it was pretty funny, so I figured I’d post a belated link.
Love for Sale?

So here’s what I’ve never understood: Match.com has this offer where, if you spend a fruitless six months on the site, they’ll give you another six months free. That makes no sense to me. If you’ve spent more than $100 on a web site that promises to help you find the love of your life, and you’re unsuccessful after six months, seems to me you’d want your money back, not another six months free.
A Very Internets Christmas
20 Dec
Will the wonders of the internets never cease? Today I came across a site that features (almost) nothing more than Christmas music videos, holiday specials, holiday episodes of various television shows, tv commercials, and more. There are 101 things to watch, including last year’s holiday episode of The Office, the Festivus episode of Seinfeld, and the video for Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas.” (And if you look elsewhere on the site, you can also find this year’s holiday episode of The Office.) It’s a gold mine for holiday fun, and as the weekend gets closer, this only makes me more excited.
Under Construction
25 OctI was thinking about my blog today — as I do on most days — and I decided it needed a paint job. So click here to see how that might look.
Thanks!
Listen Up, Everyone

It’s continually amazing to me that you can find nearly anything on the internets. For example, in a recent blurb in the “Sidekick” section of the Boston Globe, I read about a great Ryan Adams concert from 2003 that someone had heard. Finally got around to looking for the guy’s blog today and lo and behold, there it was: a posting with individual MP3s of the entire show. Too cool, and he’s right — it was an incredible show. Then I clicked around some more and found an awesome performance of “New York, New York” that Ryan did on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2001.
Anyway, about a half hour later, after going back to rbally.net, I had dug deep into the site and found MP3s of all kinds of live shows (from bands like R.E.M., the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jane’s Addiction, and Radiohead, among others), some current and some older (i.e.: from the last decade or so), and many of them worth a listen. I’ll be going back to check out more of the site. In the meantime, I’ve provided a link to rbally.net in the sidebar of this site for future reference.
While I’m on the topic, perhaps I should point out the two other music-related blogs I already have links to: Zeon’s Music Blog and Ali’s Blog. Zeon tends to have MP3s of his favorite songs, soundtracks, and artists, in addition to new stuff and rare covers and other cool tracks. Currently he’s got up a weird but cool cover of The Killers’ “Smile Like You Mean It” by, of all people, David Gray. For full, leaked new CDs (like the entire new Killers album, not out until next week) and hot singles, go to Ali’s site. That’s also where I found Justin Timberlake’s new CD a couple weeks early, if you’re interested. But because, well, it’s illegal to download these CDs at all, especially weeks before they’re publicly available, the links to them are only up for about 24 hours in most cases so Ali doesn’t get in trouble. Act quickly. (And by the way, if you want to hear a cool remix of the Killers’ “When You Were Young,” click here.)
Plain and simple, the web makes it fun to be a music fan. (No big news there, of course.) And for the record (no pun intended), I have gone out and actually bought some of the actual CDs after downloading them online. And thanks to hearing new artists on sites like these, I’ve been turned on to their music and have spent money on them in other ways. So there, record companies. Fan music sites do serve a good purpose. Just do me a favor, dear readers: if you become a frequent visitor of the sites like I am, don’t abuse them. Buy music too so “the man” doesn’t come and shut these folks down. (Stepping off the soap box now. Putting my headphones back on.)
