Change Is Good

30 Mar

Long-time readers of this blog know that I often write about needing change in my life.

Well, today I’m announcing some big changes. Three of them.

The first is the obvious one: I’ve moved my blog to a brand-new home.

After six and a half years at Blogger.com, Martin’s Musings has taken up residence at WordPress, and yes, here at martinlieberman.com.

It’s the same blog you’ve come to know and love, but better.

For example, I’ve done away with the white-text-on-black-background look that screamed “Amateur!” and I’ve chosen what I think is a cleaner look for this new iteration.

In addition, now you can subscribe to the blog, so you won’t miss anything. Just type your email address in the field at the top-right-hand corner of this blog post.

And you now can share the blog posts you like, on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and yes, on Google+ too. (All those options are at the bottom of this and every blog post.)

I’m even going to be writing more often than I have been, on some different topics than movies, so that’s something to look forward to as well.

Why is that? Well, that brings us to the second big change …

I’m leaving my job.

Today, March 30, is my last day in the office at my current job. And it’s a good thing. A very good thing.

I have some great memories from these past three-plus years, including our munchkin-eating contestfree Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Pretzel Crisps, the relaunch of our corporate blog three times (yes, you read that correctly — three times), lots and lots of cupcakes, and much more.

I’ve made some very good friends, both inside the company and within the industry, and I’ve gone on some very cool trips on the company dime.

I’ve also learned a lot — and not just about marketing, social media, and online publishing.

Yes, I’ve been very lucky. I said that when I got the job, and I still say that today.

But that doesn’t change the fact that it was time to go.

Hard as it may be, sometimes you get to a point and you just need to do something different. That’s what I need.

What will that be? Well, I’m going to take some time to figure it out, and then I’ll let you know.

The important thing is that I’m very happy, and I’m excited, hopeful, and optimistic about what lies ahead, even if right now I don’t know exactly what that is. (Got any ideas/leads/opportunities? I’m interested in hearing about them.)

Oh, and that third change?

I’m going to do something I said I would do a looooooong time ago: I’m going to start working out.

Sunday is April first, but that’s no joke.

Not this time.

This time I’m serious.

I’ve got a gym in my condo area that’s included in my condo fees. Next week marks four years since I moved in, and four years I’ve been paying for the gym and not using it.

With a little more time on my hands, I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to finally make use of the equipment I pay for every month.

So on April 1, that’s what I’m going to do.

And I’m going to do it every day.

Maybe before long, I’ll actually start running around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, not just walking it.

No, really. I’m not joking this time.

So there you go, three big changes for me.

April’s the time for spring cleaning, and I’m giving myself a good scrub.

You can follow my progress on all three things right here at the new and improved Martin’s Musings. I hope you will.

Right back at you. I’m not going away so quickly, so I hope/expect to keep on being a part of the group in some capacity.

Congrats on the big changes and best of luck with whatever is next! [And getting to that gym every day. You can totally do it!]

It has been a joy to know you, Martin. Change is good, yes, but change is also hard. That is why people resist change. Change sometimes is unconfortable, unfamiliar, and unsecure. But you know what? In my exoerience it has ALWAYS ended up as the best thing that has ever happened to me. ALWAYS. I will always be in touch. Take care.

Great post, Man of Lieber! You have a wonderful attitude! And it’s said that when you make public declarations about your goals, you’re more likely to stick with them. So, we’ll be expecting to hear back from you about your workout routine. Best of luck with everything – not that you’ll actually need it though – you’re a happy, positive guy and that seems to follow you wherever you go.

    • Martin Lieberman March 30, 2012 at 12:39 pm #

Thanks, Stephani! That was exactly my plan: Say it publicly, so people like you can hold me to it. 😉

    • Martin Lieberman March 30, 2012 at 5:22 pm #

Thanks, Adam! I’m looking forward to telling you what’s next. And if you know of anyone/anywhere that’s looking for someone … send ’em my way! 😉
